Kanyakumari is the southernmost
tip of India which unites the Bay of Bengal, the
Indian Ocean & the Arabian Sea. The
confluence of the seas is termed as "Triveni
Sangamam". Kanyakumari is famous for its
spectacular sunrises & sunsets & beaches
with color sands. On a fullmoon day, one can
witnesss the Sun & the Moon simultaneously
on the two extremes(Arabian Sea & Bay of
Bengal). Other attractions of this town are
Kumari Amman temple, Vivekananda Rock, Light
House and Gandhi

Kumari
Amman Temple
The
Goddess here is Devi
Kumari or Kanyakumari, a virgin. The
Goddess has got a extremely brightful diamond in
her nose-stead. It is believed that in olden
days, the light from this diamond acts as a
lighthouse for boats & ships sailing in the
seas. Legends say that the Goddess Devi Kumari
appeared here to annihilate the demon Panasuran.
Legends connect this temple & the Goddess
with the Suchindram temple which is 13 kms from
Kanyakumari. |
Vivekananda
Rock
This
is just 400 metres away from the shores of
Kanyakumari and we can reach this rock with the
help of the ferry
service available there. This is the
place where Swami
Vivekananda mediated and this turned
to be an important event in his life.
One
can have a wonderful experience here where the
three seas mingle and the architecture of this
memorial is appreciable. There is a Meditation
Hall here. A Book Store containing the teachings
& works of Swami Vivekananda is also
available. |
Thiruvalluvar
Statue
Near
Vivekananda Rock is the Thiruvalluvar Memorial.
A statue of Thiruvallur of height 133ft is here
and this memorial was constructed to honour the
great poet Thiruvalluvar whose work "Thirukurral" has got
world fame. This memorial can be reached through
ferry

Gandhi
Mandapam
Gandhi
Mandapam is near the Kumari Amman Temple
where the ash of Mahatma
Gandhi is preserved. The Mandapam is
designed in such a manner that on every October
2nd, the rays of the sun fall on the
spot where the ash is
kept. |
Suchindram
Temple This
place is 13 kms from Kanyakumari and the
temple here is noted for its 18ft Hanuman Statue,
musical pillars, architecture
and so on. In this temple, we can see the three
deities Shiva, Vishnu & Brahma which is said
to be rare. The Suchindram temple has got a
beautiful gopuram and a large
teppakulam. |
Padmanabar
Palace It
is an artistic palace built using teakwood &
granite. In the palace there are 108 rooms
showing the marvelous patterns and amazing
structure of the splendid architecture of
Kerala. A
Dining Hall which can accommodate 2000 people is
an attraction. Padmanabhar
Palace
is on the way from Kanyakumari to
Trivandrum.
